Quick Recap of the Legality of Fingerprint Keepsakes Webinar
In case you missed it, our Premier Partner Legacy Touch was featured in a webinar hosted by Ryan Thogmartin of Connecting Directors, featuring a panel with Legacy Touch President Brett Logan, our CEO Charlie Cole, and legal expert Poul Lemasters.
Here are a few key points our panel touched on during the webinar, along with their answers.
- Is it legal to take prints without asking families first?
Our panel agreed that it is best to establish a process where you take the fingerprints every time, right away, and then present it to the family when you meet with them. If the family does not want you to have a copy of the fingerprints, you can delete them from the server. It is better to have the fingerprints than not because if the family comes to you later and you do not have them, this will be a problem you cannot solve.
- How many fingerprints should you take?
The team at Legacy Touch recommends three to five fingerprints. The artists will work to select the best option and enhance the fingerprint in the best way possible on the keepsake. If there is just one fingerprint, there could be issues with the scan that prevent them from engaging in this process.
- How do you share this information with families without being too pushy?
Every company and firm do this differently. At Legacy Touch, a PIN is tied to every fingerprint order. The family is emailed this PIN, which allows them to revisit the products later when they are feeling less stressed. One of the oldest PINs that has been used to order a product was 100 days old!
